It is possible to use the substance, with the right "set and setting" to
induce a mystical experience. See if you can find "The Psychedelic
Experience" by Leary, Alpert, and Metzner. I think it has been put online, and
it has a good introduction. See also the works of Aldous Huxley in this regard.

BTW, I just got back from Java and Bali in March, enjoyed the trip.

      Excuse,
I do not mean to be rude here, but maybe no long term physical side effects, but what about the short and long term psychological
effects. Especially when one has great problems simulating the said experience.
When was the last time you took 350/500/750/1000mic of LSD? (I have took the said many times, so am qualified to comment truthfully)
      Average street dose 170/250 mic.
You get the set and setting wrong, and you are in for a psychological experience you did not count upon.
Fear feeds fear and then fear grabs fear by the bollocks and tries to strangle fear. Get the picture.
True it is only you that experiences the said experience, but inexperience of LSD can cause great psychological trauma.
      Be very careful.
Also folks Erowid is not the all and end all of what the psychedelic world is about. A good reference place maybe, but first hand experience is always number one.
Jump in the river and learn how to swim.
Firstly make sure you can touch the bottom.
You will never be the same after taking LSD, your views will be expanded. Your horizons of consciousness will always be higher.
I have seen people in mental hospitals that had one trip and never came back.
Be very very careful my friends.
Most people laugh on an average dose of LSD, usually a fail safe mechanism to fear.
It is good to read about these things, but always get some one who knows about what you may experience, and will be able to steer you through things if they get out of your control.
Most people never truly find out the power and depth of such a psychological tool, because they take it at parties without respect for what the said can really be used for.
Timothy Leary got it wrong, it was not "Turn on, tune in and drop out."
It is, "Turn on tune in and change the program."
      Always coming back different.
That is what LSD is really all about.
It is a man made tool enabling one to reprogram the machine.
It is not a party drug.
      Take care.

I feel compelled to respond to this....

I've been doing LSD for more than 10 years now and you are right: LSD is nothing to be too easy about.
There are dangers, and it's important to know about them.
Fear plays a crucial rule in this. And that's where I come in: Tell people to be fearful, and they will be,
and that's the wrong way to approach LSD. Take it with fear, and you are bound to have some horrible time.
Have a playful mind, and even take it at ( the right ) parties.

At least I did. And yes, sometimes it went down the wrong alley. When it did, at least I learned a lot about myself.
When it didn't, I had loads of fun, and also learned a lot about myself. (I have to add: I always try to take low dosages)

Be careful, try to get to know yourself (be honest to yourself) before, because LSD *will* bring things up, and if you
don't know yourself, the surprises *can* be, let's say, *surprising*.

But after you took it, and there's no turning back: be playful, have fun, and even: make party. There's nothing wrong about that.

          Thank you Lars.
I really only meant to say.
"Have great respect for a jungle you where not born into>"

LSD 25 is still used in Switzerland to help suffering alcoholics get a psychological grip of their problem and overcome it.

I wonder if my earliest notion that all objects (even inanimate) have a soul stems from my early experimentation with lsd25. I remember having physical objects as imaginary friends, and often feeling a presence behind me (following?) from an early age. I also have a reoccurring dream where someone will be calling for me, and I am too high to walk and I can't really stand up. I often feel severe vertigo in these dreams, is vertigo common in dreams?

You tie vertigo in with reoccuring dream,
try to untie it if it is uncomfortable.
I rarely experience vertigo unless I'm in a vortex.

              • well the primary benefit is that your brodmanns brain areas which previously were not communicating with each other
due to natural filtering mechanisms suddenly start to conversate on lsd. plus, your brain electricity goes from alternating
                current to direct current.

the negative effects and the positive effects are pretty much all based on what happens when all of the selves that most
people don't realize are there suddenly materialize en force. Kind of like a whale surfacing from the depth of the subconscious.

how you relate to it is going to be wether you have a good or bad trip.

its good to understand that the ego mind is pretty much just two or three brodmanns brain areas, and that the rest of the brain
is a whole lot of different aspects of self with their own voices and their own perspectives and their own agendas and their
                own forms of internal dialogue.

for more info on brodmanns brain areas, check my photos.

of course, but it's one of the few drugs that doesn't mess with your physical well-being. everything from there on out depends solely on you and your psychological state. and yes by all means, greatest care and responsibility must be used with this. you must always be aware of the impact on yourself and know when to not take drugs....that goes without saying. cheers and happy exploring :)

          benefits :
-you can quit smoking or alcohol
-the way you look at the world or any living organisms changes
-you feel the connection with everything

          side effects :
-you are not the same ( that's a good one)
-you need to know your own limits

based on an experience with Ayahuasca

If one has problems dealing with the experience, it's as easy as letting go of that fear causing that one internal dis-ease. There are always a few souls who are not strung too tightly together, but their reality wasn't clear before they did LSD. So for most of us, there are no side effects, long or short term, mental or physical----that is--if you take LSD and not one of many analogs distributed as LSD which could be devistating to the psyche.

If your friend had trouble on acid, it is much more likely that he was suffering from
an undiagnosed problem before he took it. The chemical brings out what is already there,
      rather than adding anything...

I'll have to point this back to your previous comment to answer this one and the other:)

Yes.. Make sure you have a solid psych and know your Self.

I've had many friends that have pushed their boundaries. I've pushed my boundaries and manged to come back ( albeit on 2ct7 ) but still manage to function normally, but in the end, It all comes down to you. You will know when you are ready. Some folks are never ready for it, but when you are, its A M A Z I N G !!!!

have respect for what it can do bot positive and negative, but plan it out and do your best to achieve the positive parts of this ride. It is a fantastic voyage done in the right space & time.

All in all. Be ready for it ;) its a GREAT trip!!!

LSD, , my favorite aspect, is that lost almost forgotten bodily function that LSD seems to help access, the merging with the universe and knowing that the universe at large is communicating with and thru you, and is extremely happy that it made you to have this experience with. When your heart is filled with AWE and knowing that this seems to be of major importance for the universe, the universe will tell you "way to go, thanks you for making the trip and seeing with your own body, im glad I made your body so we could have this experience together" Dont fear LSD,

Interesting .. Thank you .. , at the time i feel like uneasy .. rigid .. after that i feel lots of revelation about the bible and what Christ said .. and it is the truth .. i think .. and it help me to do it .. (the good according to Christ) and its very2 hard and it is deppressing , i can deny myself (which is good according to Christ ..) and the lsd help me to clear up any negative feeling ,energy that i have .. about my father's downing me .. my mother's not goodness .. i feel what my parents said paranoid .. but i think it is thinking the possibility of what happenning the bad things .. according to past evidence and behavior and doing and present evidence , behavior and doing .. which is maybe my father and mother is an evil and satan .. and thinking about faith .. believe .. after that i talk with my sister and brother the positive things about religion .. Christianity and .. like that . its a trip .. now im not like that , now i feel good (sorry of my language .. im having a reprogramming of my thoughts at the time now and 2 hours before )

You have had an opening experience, which is possibly disorienting at first, since the old categories
don't apply to the new experience. What you need to do now is assimilate the new self-knowledge,
which will take longer than the trip, but the result is spiritual maturity and a deeper connection to the
(internal) divine. You may recognize that the
inner truth of many religions, Xtianity included,
springs from the same "perennial philosophy."

                  Religions get into problems when
they start pushing their interpretation, often sexist and patriarchal,
                  as the only permissible one.

                  Bon voyage!

the first time i SAW music was on LSD. I SAW the sound waves coming out of the speaker, and into all of the people on the dancefloor, into me, through me and onto the rest of my surroundings. It was like this cosmic wave of energy that connected us all. The universe was connected and I could physically feel and see it.

LSD reshaped how I see things- literally- it increased the depth/3-dimensionality of my visual perception, which has in turned allowed me to see and appreciate landscapes, art, etc.

It's not negative persay, but LSD has always cleaned out my bowels....but that also might be from my excitement/nervousness.

the way I see it sarah,
      LSD is the spirits syrum.
There's a rainbow in your body, and LSD turns it on
and up your spine (your main antenna)
      When your glowing
your body radiates intense healing energy
and whenever I trip on acid I feel so cleansed.

And the day after your rainbow shuts off. Your chakras force shut. Your flowers don't wilt, but they close.

After a coupla days you start glowing again,
although no where near as intense as when you were tripping :]

Marco, you just need to dose yourself good.
A lot of the acid that goes around is weak and soemtimes I need to take up to 7 hits (even 13 in some absurd cases!)

I always have a great time when I dose hard. It lasts longer, you go deeper, and the nirvana is so much more resonant (rather than the schizo paranoia hahaha)

So my advice, eat a lot of acid!

          cheers! :] (O I LOVE IT)

            LOL..

The first time I ever tripped was at BurningMan 99 :) Hit 2 hits of mad Hatter and went walking on the playa!!

Talk about Dosing yourself up good. Not only was I already in a pretty fun environment sober, but dosed up!!

            OMG!!

I would usually advised going 2 or 3 hits on a first try. that way if its bunk, you can always hit more. If its super strong, then you have a pretty decent ride!! :)

LSD is measured in micrograms. you can never tell how much acid is on a blotter square, or a drop of liquid, until it absorbs haha.
Nothing to be afraid of here, only yourself.
The only organism that has died (that we know of . .[mk ultra??]) was an elephant who got like 300 MILLAgrams of it.
                Must have been intense.
You can't OD on acid. The more you take the harder you trip.
I like to trip really really hard.
                Just my personal preference.
              • LSD short term tolerance.

                Tue, September 25, 2007 - 6:30 AM
As I recall, LSD exhibits a tolerance, so that after a maximally effective dose, say 700 mcg, not much more occurs, so anything after that is wasted. And if you take it again a few hours after trippping, not much happens.
There is folklore of someone who took several hundred hits, and was high for maybe 3 days, but after that, it was back to normal.
Part of it is that the chemical just activates neural transmitter sites, especially serotonin and to a lesser extent dopamine, and after about 30 minutes, it can't be found in the system.

"There is folklore of someone who took several hundred hits, and was high for maybe 3 days, but after that, it was back to normal"

It only took me 40 hits unkowingly and on my first time to trip for about 2 1/2 days. I went to my first "rave" and my cousins friend was really fucked up and poured almost half a vial in my water trying to put only like 7-8 hits. I tripped so hard i never wanted tro try it again and the worst thing is that i would fall asleep and wake up tripping nuts. I thought I was gone forever and started feeling like I was going insane. Keep in mind this was my first time and i was a little bit unshure. Eventually it went away and it took me 4 years to try it again. Also my friend was aciedently doesd with about 1/3 of a vial and tripped for a couple days was well. I guess its just all about how good your liquid is as well as how your body reacts to it.
